Stainless steel----Taiwan steel export ratio up in first 7 months of 2013

CAN reported that the ratio of Taiwan's steel exports to production rose more than 1 percentage point in the first seven months of this year.

Taiwan’s ministry of economic affairs' department of statistics said that during the seven-month period, local steel makers targeted the export market as they raised production with the operation of new furnaces.

The statistics department said that after the rush by steel makers in 2010 -2012 to build new furnaces, production growth has become more visible in 2013, prompting these suppliers to seek overseas customers, which boosted the exports-to-production ratio.

In the first seven months of the year, Taiwan's steel exports totaled 4.85 million metric tonnes, accounting for 14.04% of the country's total production, up 1.12 percentage points from a year earlier.

Taiwan's steel exports rose by an annual 12.53% in terms of quantity, but the value fell 3.92% year on year to about NTD 130 billion (USD 4.42 billion).
